In this past year of gaming we’ve seen our shares of great games being released to the worst of the worst. We’ve put up the crap games from the previous year to playing the best games that have been released so far. We’ve seen legit game developers get no rewards for their new games to independent game developers racking in the awards from multiple award ceremonies. This is my 2012 Games in Review! We are going to go through four quarters of gaming this year. Shall we get started?
Alright let’s go back to the beginning of the year where there was a ton of games that came out during Quarter One of the year for us. There were games like Final Fantasy XII-2, The Darkness II, Asura’s Wrath, and probably the biggest game to come out of Q1 Mass Effect. We also seen the new release of the new Sony Playstation Vita (PSVita) but was not real popular at first here in the states from released figures and the amount of overstock gaming stores around the United States. One game that made headlines and more on this later with ME3 was Journey.
So we have come to Quarter Two of the 2012 Review in gaming and this is where things got a bit interesting. PAX East and E3 dominated the Q2 with new releases for the rest of the year of gaming and the next year of gaming. We got to see trailers and demos of the games like Assassin’s Creed III, Call of Duty Black Ops II, Halo 4, Far Cry 3, and many other new and exciting games that would be released later in the year. There can be many arguments on who actually won E3 in June but in my personal opinion it was Ubisoft with blockbuster announcements about Assassin’s Creed III, Watch Dogs, Far Cry 3, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and ZombiU.
Let’s go and see what Quarter Two had in store for us shall we? Alright let’s start with games like Blacklight Retribution, Fez, The Walking Dead Episode 1 (more on that later), Minecraft (XBLA), Diablo III, Max Payne 3, Tom Clancy’s Future Soldier, Spec Ops: The Line, The Walking Dead Episode 2, and many more others. Quarter Two was mostly dominated by the conventions that allowed us to see what we are in stored for the future. This is about the same time where we started to hear rumors about Xbox 720 and PS4 which dominated the whole summer until fall of 2012.
So here we are with Quarter Three of the 2012 Year in review of gaming. This is where we get all of the good stuff boys and girls. We did have PAX Prime that happened and Gamescom 2012 where the first look into the multiplayer of Call of Duty Black Ops II. Let’s start off with what came out of Quarter Three shall we? We got to see games like Darksiders II, Sleeping Dogs, The Walking Dead Episode 3, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Guild Wars 2, Borderlands 2, FIFA 13, and an expansion of World of Warcraft called Mists of Pandaria. This is just the taste of what was to come from Quarter Four with the best for last! This is where people stepped away from games like Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to play some of the most anticipated games from Quarter Three.
We are here! This is the last Quarter of the gaming year! This is where the big titles come out and everyone’s wallets are being abused due to the amount of the heavy hitters come out. I’ll touch up on the Spike Video Game Awards later on but this is where things get hot! We got to see great games like Resident Evil 6, Pokemon Black and White 2 (had to add due to one of my favorite franchises), The Walking Dead Episode 4, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Hotline Miami, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed III Liberations, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Halo 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, The Walking Dead Episode 5: No Time Left, and Far Cry 3.
Let’s hit up on what came out in Quarter Four also. The Wii U officially came out in November that was sold out without minutes of release to the point where people can’t get any Wii U consoles til March of 2013 due to how popular the system was at first. It showed how the future of gaming is going to be with the Xbox 720 and PS4. Titles like Assassin’s Creed III, New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition, Darksiders II, and FIFA 13.
We have come towards the end of this long but interesting year in gaming but we are going to hit up a little on the awards that were given out at the end of the year! I’ll probably let you go to a previous post that happened back in December which shouldn’t be too long ago but I will hit up the most important ones right now with the Spike VGAs. Game of the Year went to The Walking Dead which was surprising to a lot of people but from what I understand was a really good game. Best Xbox 360 Game went to Halo 4, Best PS3 Game went to Journey, Best Wii/Wii U Game went to New Super Mario Bros. U, Best PC Game went to XCOM: Enemy Unknown. The shock of the year in my opinion was when Borderlands 2 beat out some of the best shooters for Best Shooter and Best Multi-Player Game. I’m sure some of you do agree with me. Some might not and that’s alright.
Alright boys and girls this should wrap up my Games in Review 2012. I would like to thank Crystal to give me the opportunity to let me write this and post this to her gaming blog. If you like what you read, go ahead and leave a message. If you don’t like what I said, leave a message and tell me what I did wrong. Anything to help the blog out. Again thank you for joining me. This has been Denver (Cowboy) and I’m out of here!
