PS4 Slaughters Next-Gen Competition (A Quick Glimpse)

The Sony E3 presentation of the PS4 just now concluded and I am completely blown away. Sony did every single damn thing right in their mission to present the best next-gen console, and that is a simple fact that no one can honestly deny. In the midst of Microsoft’s anti-consumerist shadow, Sony rode in on a high horse and proved that they have been actively listening to our wants and needs, and that alone won me over in this next-gen console war. While not all of the information is here, let’s get into some of the key details that were mentioned.

  • Used games are supported. Buy them, let friends borrow them, sell them.
  • A constant internet connection and “check-ins” are not required. However online play will require a PlayStation Plus subscription ($5 a month). PS+ access will cover the PS3, PS4, and Vita all for one price.
  • Single player games and all media services, however, will not require a PS+ subscription
  • Cross-game chat

The Games

Games, games, and more games. With the exception of the small reveal of the expected media services, Sony did an amazing job with their video game presentations and reveals. Don’t believe me? Here’s a list.

  • Battlefield 4
  • Blacklight: Retribution
  • Call of Duty: Ghosts
  • The Crew
  • The Dark Sorceror

I have no doubt that I missed some titles (feel free to include them in the comments below), but this is just a taste of what PS4 consumers can expect.

The Console

The PS4 console was finally revealed as a simple and sleek console that actually reminds me a bit of the PS2 console. It doesn’t look as bulky as the Xbox One, which is a wonderful thing for me considering I don’t have too much space on my entertainment center.

The PS4 will be available Holiday 2013 for $399. What features and games are you looking forward to playing on the PS4? Are there any disappointments? Leave your opinions in the comment section below!

  1. So I currently see the future…

A PS4 and Wii U is somewhere on my shelf, with a few titles that I want to get. Makes sense 😀

Just wanted to say it’s definitely been a long while that E3 actually was exciting. Kind of revived the gamer spirit in me. Now, I don’t think Sony’s conference was that perfect — it was just well executed to the point where it looks like owning a PS4 seems like the right thing to do. And hopefully, I shall.

  2. List looks good, but I don’t see Tom Clancy’s The Division. That game was shown at Ubisoft’s conference running on a PS4, and it looked amazing.

PS4 hands down for me. Already pre-ordered!
