Techland, the developer responsible for Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide, has introduced a brand new zombie survival game that may surpass the Dead Island experience. Dying Light is a first person zombie survival game, combining the smooth movements of freerunning with brutal combat against the undead. PlayStation released a 12 minute gameplay video, and from first impressions alone, it looks like a game I need to get.
The speed and fluidity of the freerunning was more than impressive, particularly while running through what looks like a favela. There is a sense of urgency during the daytime, particularly when the “Hulk” appears, as well as when mobs of zombies appear and you’re forced to flee instead of fight through them. Set in an open-world, it’ll be interesting to see what all you come in contact with, particularly other humans trying to survive.
But everything changes when the sun sets, and the zombies you slayed during the day turn into something way more menacing at night. Trying to sneak your way through a city full of “super zombies” seems terrifying, and I love games that carry that true horror-filled atmosphere.
Techland has also confirmed that there will be 4-player co-op, but no other multiplayer details have been revealed. Slated for a 2014 release, expect Dying Light to drop on PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, and PS4.
