Today, a Kickstarter for a new film has gone live, introducing a very promising way of cinematic storytelling that will entice and no doubt entertain gamers and non-gamers alike.
Noobcamp is a story about an ex-professional gamer who is forced to teach a video game camp for kids. Johnny7, as he was once known, was among the top pro gamers in the world and made millions in endorsements before his downfall. The show picks up several years after his demise. Johnny, now mid-20s, reckless and jaded from his fame and fortune, is probably the worst person for the job, but he may be exactly what they need.
Noobcamp could effectively place an entertaining spotlight on the gaming community through a devoted web series that you can help create. By becoming a backer on Kickstarter, not only will you help make sure that the Noobcamp pilot gets made, but you can earn some awesome rewards while doing so. Now I wish I had $10,000 to donate… I’d love to be a part of this show!
“While the popularity of web shows continues to rise, the concept is still fairly new. What’s not new, however, are the techniques that film and television have discovered and perfected over the last hundred years. Rather than using these methods, many web shows just follow actors around with cameras while the actors discuss their backstory.
“It is the hero on his mission that we want to watch, not a rant about his history. By juxtaposing images, the contrast creates a third idea from within our mind that pushes the story forward. It makes us feel that we’re a part of the adventure versus feeling like we’re listening to a lecture.”
It’s hard not to support the passion that Mayview Studios so obviously has for this web show. Not only does the team want to provide an unique and entertaining web experience, they want to inspire others to create their own.
“While Noobcamp will be very entertaining, it is important to our team that we promote the idea of incorporating film logic to web shows. We hope Noobcamp will inspire more people to use film and television techniques to create their own amazing series. Otherwise, we can just sit around and wait for Netflix to create more shows for us to watch, but we don’t have the time for that.
“We are creating a story that any person with a soul can enjoy. There will be game references and things that only gamers will appreciate but what’s more important to us is to bridge the gap between gamers and non-gamers by delivering a story that anyone can relate to.”
So make sure you check out Noobcamp’s Kickstarter page, and let me know if you become a backer so I can draw little hearts and tell you how awesome you are!
