Creativity thrives inside of video games, and once again, this is a moment whenI have to reiterate that video games can be art. I grew up playing Legend of Zelda, but Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask are the two Zelda titles that I really remember. It’s interesting to look back at a game that followed me through such a pivotal time in my life and realizing that perhaps there is more to be seen.

Game Theory released a video on YouTube explaining how Link could actually be dead as he progresses through the Majora’s Mask storyline, and even if this theory is complete and utter bullshit, it’s so awesome to be able to pull theories such as this out of such an entertaining title. Is Link really dead in Majora’s Mask? Let me know what you think!

  1. This reminds me of the “Squall is dead” or “Rinoa is Ultimecia” theories surrounding VIII. I can tell you according to my hyrule Historia he is in fact, not dead.

    • About the theory “Squall is dead”… Squall not dies in the game. (spoilers) If he die on Disk 1 everything that follows from disc 2 onwards would not make sense, we would not know the role of Edea, the connection with Laguna, Ellone, etc.

Squall does not die in disc 4 (spoilers) because the the video where Selphie and Irvine filmed the celebration after beating Ultimecia, everyone is happy, that means that everything went well (include Squall alive).
Also, Kitase in the interview in the Ultimania says that in the game there is a happy ending.

About the theory “Rinoa is Ultimecia”… (spoilers): In the Ultimania say, “Square has directly stated that Rinoa is definitely not Ultimecia.”

  2. It could be. It is not said that the Links are blood related, only by “spirit” and the Zeldas share a bloodline. At least that’s what Ghirahim said in Skyward Sword.
